DBSA is a Chicago area finalist, one of three, being considered for a $350,000 Communities Benefit Grant from the Humana Foundation. The foundation is welcoming your vote for the non-profit you would like to receive this grant. Number of votes received count for 20 per cent of the non-profit’s score towards awarding the grant. Go to this web page to cast your vote for DBSA. You may vote once daily from today through August 22 (you are asked to enter your email address to protect against repeat votes the same day).
The grant, if awarded, will be used to create a Peer Leadership Center offering resources, continuing education, training, and information to potential and current Peer Specialists. This rapidly emerging workforce employs individuals to assist their peers in gaining information and support from the community to make their wellness goals a reality. They serve as guides and living role models of the possibility of recovery, despite steep challenges.
