Our support group in Newark will be changing its meeting time to 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM starting August 2. Through July 19, meetings will continue to be from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Meetings are on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
We hope the new meeting time will make attending our meetings easier for individuals who work, and we are open to making additional adjustments to encourage participation. Our Newark meeting is sponsored by Newark Beth Israel Hospital and DBSA Succasunna. For additional information about the support group, please contact Cassandra at 973-420-2225 or via the contact form on the group’s home page.
We welcome a new self-help support group for persons living with depression, bipolar disorder and related conditions, as well as family and friends of those living with such mental health issues, meeting weekly serving the South Orange/Maplewood community. Meetings are on Wednesdays, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the Ethical Culture Society, 516 Prospect St, Maplewood, NJ. See the group’s web page for contact information and details about the meeting.
The effort to start this meeting was driven by Andrea, who also leads the meetings. The first meeting was on February 22, 2017. Though the support group is not affiliated with DBSA, Andrea has been trained as a DBSA facilitator and leads using DBSA’s format. Andrea is working towards affiliating the support group as a DBSA chapter.
If you live in the South Orange/Maplewood area, please attend and give the support group a try. And, if you can, help Andrea to success in forming a new DBSA chapter!

The center is part of a network of centers for peers living with mental health conditions run by Collaborative Support Programs of New Jersey.
It is hoped that a Saturday daytime meeting will provide an opportunity for peer support for those whose schedule does not permit attending a weekday evening meeting. The meeting is free and no pre-registration is required. For additional information or questions, please contact us at dbsaPrinceton@gmail.com or call Kattrina at 609-378-5371.
As of this month our meeting at the New Horizons Wellness Center in Vineland, NJ, has been discontinued. The support group had met monthly since March 2016. We appreciate the support of the wellness center in allowing us to bring our self-help peer support group to the community over the past year.
DBSA Princeton in partnership with the Plainsboro Public Library will present a workshop on using health care reform and parity laws to receive the insurance benefits owed to you for treatment for mental health or addiction issues. Carol Rickard, LCSW, a mental healthcare advocate for DBSA, will lead the workshop and address your questions. The workshop, which is free and open to the community, will be on Wednesday, September 14 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the library. Please see the library’s website for directions.
Health care reform has increased access to mental health and addiction treatment services for millions of Americans. But far too many people are not aware of their new rights under mental health parity laws. This workshop will review reforms in insurance plans and provide you with information on how to know, and stand up, for your rights, as well as how to appeal a benefit denial.
In a time when far too many people are dying and there exists an even greater need for access to treatment, only 4% of Americans even know the parity law exists. This historic law was written to eliminate the discrimination against people living with mental health and substance use disorders and ensure people receive the treatment they need. You do not want to miss this workshop being led by Carol Rickard, LSCW, a nationally recognized stress and wellness expert.
THE WORKSHOP IS OPEN TO ALL
